Akunna's History
Sister Grace Akunna John-Emezi’s path as a Handmaid of the Holy Child Jesus began in Nigeria’s Archdiocese of Owerri. Driven by encounters with women suffering from breast cancer, her journey blends nursing expertise, global mission work, and a deep commitment to spreading hope through breast cancer awareness and compassionate care.
Seeds of Vocation
Born in the Archdiocese of Owerri and professed in the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ), her call to serve began in faith and community.
Formation & Training
Nursing and Midwifery studies, leadership and administration training (GIMPA, UNIBEN), licensure as a Nurse Administrator, plus theology and safeguarding, laid a strong professional foundation.

Parish and school talks, self-exam workshops, and simple media grew into support groups, volunteer training, referral networks, and church–NGO partnerships.
Built to Last
Training of trainers, annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month drives, fundraising, and ongoing leadership education ensure the mission’s long-term impact
